Barnaby the teddy bear loves Lily more than anything in the whole world. They do everything together from tea parties and bedtime stories to cuddles after a long day. But one evening, Barnaby overhears Lily talking excitedly about starting school the next morning. Although Lily smiles, Barnaby worries she might feel scared in a new place without him. Determined to protect his best friend, Barnaby quietly sneaks into Lily's backpack before sunrise, hiding among her books and pencils. As the school day begins, Barnaby peeks out and discovers that school isn't scary at all. It is filled with friendly teachers, kind classmates, colourful classrooms, songs, games, stories, painting, counting, and exciting discoveries around every corner. Throughout the day, Barnaby watches Lily make new friends, learn new things, and laugh with confidence. He soon realizes that school isn't a place to fear it's a place where adventures begin. When they arrive home, Barnaby climbs back onto Lily's bed before she notices. That night, as Lily hugs him tightly, Barnaby smiles to himself. He knows she'll always come home to him, carrying wonderful new stories from each school day. From then on, Barnaby never worries about school again. Instead, every morning he quietly wishes Lily a magical day, knowing that every lesson, every friendship, and every adventure helps her grow a little brighter than the day before.
